Zimbabwe Highlights
One of the great African countries, rather lost in the last few years but hopefully and seemingly on the way back. A destination in itself or in combination with other countries, Zimbabwe still retains the traditions of the old safari. Outstanding game viewing and huge range of sights and attractions.
Victoria Falls: Powerful and beautiful, over 1700m wide and 100m high. In flood it is the world’s largest waterfall. Vast array of adventures to suit all make it the adrenaline capital of Africa. Good wildlife too.
Hwange: Excellent national game park, with private concessions. Huge breadth and volume of wildlife, including Africa's biggest bodied elephant. Varied and dramatic landscapes.
Lake Kariba: Extensive man-made lake built in 1960s. Great water activities including fishing (tiger and bream), game viewing by land and by boat, lake cruising and walking safaris in the Matusadona National Park.
Mana Pools: On southern bank of the Zambezi River with prolific and varied wildlife. Famous for canoeing safaris and outstanding camping and walking adventures.
Matobo: Incredible landscape of huge, balanced granite boulders. Visit gravesite of Cecil John Rhodes, ancient cave paintings and track rhino.
Great Zimbabwe: Ancient site, believed to house 25,000 people, built entirely of stone by unknown civilisation around 11th century. Good combination with Gonarezhou National Park.
